What they asked us: How can we meet the stringent recycling rates set by the Welsh Government?
With record recycling rates being achieved by the Welsh Government, Powys Council decided to invest further in a MRF (Material Recovery Facility) in order to provide a long term provision for household waste and materials recovery. Powys council decided to award the order to Whitham Mills after they provided a superior design of a sorting solution.
After our first site survey and discussions with Powys Council, we learnt that they required a system that could separate and bale a wide range of materials such as aluminium and steel cans, cardboard and plastic bottles. We designed, manufactured and installed a solution which included a GB1175TR, twin ram baler with a complex conveyor and sorting system as well as a direct feed chain conveyor which can feed the baler via the sorting bays.
“Whitham Mills designed and installed a fully automatic twin ram baler and sorting system, which now forms an integral part of the Council’s recycling process. The level of design expertise and in-depth knowledge helped the Council achieve an optimum design solution that was further enhanced by the experienced installation & maintenance team who continue to provide an excellent service. I would happily recommend Whitham Mills as the product, assistance and knowledge has been exceptional.” David Armstrong, at Powys Council.
Debbie Potter, Director of Potters Waste Management, said “We are delighted to now be able to operate the new facility for Powys County Council in Llandrindod Wells alongside the existing facilities at Brecon, Lower Cwmtwrch, Newtown and Welshpool”
