What they asked us: How can we improve the bale production in our existing facility?
Commissioned in 2016, Whitham Mills secured a order for a MRF (materials recovery facility) for Flintshire Council at their Buckley facility. Flintshire Council decided to go to tender for a much needed upgrade to their existing MRF (materials recovery facility) system. Flintshire Council needed to increase its materials handling capacity due to a Welsh Government initiative that offered councils funding and advice if they homogenised kerbside collection and brought materials processing in-house.
Previous to the installation Flintshire used a single CRB can baler to bale both aluminium and steel cans whilst having no previsions for plastic material handling, missing out on a beneficial revenue stream.
The facility receives daily trucks filled with co-mingled plastics and metal cans which then is processed. The process starts at an in-feed conveyor which keeps the 10m long picking line consistently fed allowing operators to identify and extract contaminate material.

“Flintshire Council is delighted with the equipment that Whitham Mills has installed. We have worked with the company in the past and they have always presented us with hi-tech and reliable equipment. “
